Cooling plate. (December, 2019)
RESEARCH
CONCEPT
The concept behind the cooling plate is a very simple chemical reaction where you put equal amounts of citric acid and baking soda inside the outer layer of the plate. Then, you add a small amount of water and move the plate around to stir the solution. The reaction that occurs is called an endothermic reaction. An endothermic reaction is a reaction where heat is absorbed from the surrounding and thus having a cooling effect. This chemical reaction is very basic and the elements needed are easily found in supermarkets and are safe and eco-friendly. This chemical reaction can be done multiple times by disposing the used solution and washing the plate, and then refilling the outer layer again.

FINAL PRODUCT
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The cooling plate is made out of blown glass, 6mm thickness, that has a double layer to put the chemicals in without harming or contaminating the food. The plate also comes with a funnel that is flat on the bottom to avoid spillage. The funnel will be used to put the chemicals inside of the outer layer of the plate. The plate also has a rubber plug that will ensure that nothing spills out of the plate. I chose to make the plate out of glass because glass is a heat insulator so it will not conduct heat inside the plate. I chose to make the plug out of rubber as it is more flexible and can be squeezed into the hole.
